'Solo' box office struggles may have doomed future 'Star Wars' spinoffs

Now a major U.S. site is reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm has put all future Anthology movie plans "on hold".

Lucasfilm is now devoting nearly all its energy and focus to the main franchise, specifically Star Wars: Episode IX which will release on December 20th, 2019. Weiss. Those films aren't part of the Star Wars Story branding, and are still going ahead as planned. And unknown is the fate of a Boba Fett spinoff from James Mangold, rumors of which were flying around before "Solo's" release.

With the next wave of LEGO Star Wars sets launching on August 1, some of the products will be based on the recently released Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Both Daisy Ridley and Tran have left social media platforms after receiving abuse online from trolls upset by the recent spate of Disney-produced Star Wars movies.

According to the IG report , Attorney 2 said , "Viva le resistance" in a text exchange on November 22, 2016, in reference to the newly elected president.

The slowdown comes on the heels of the disappointing box office returns of "Solo", which were lower than expected.

Solo wound up making just $84.4 million in the U.S. its first weekend and $339.6 million worldwide over the next four weeks - with experts predicting a $50-80 million loss for Disney when all is said and done.

Given Solo's poor performance - not to mention the hugely divisive reception to Star Wars: The Last Jedi - it certainly shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that Disney and Lucasfilm are looking to take stock of their handling of the franchise.

While Rogue One works for fans and critics largely because of the new characters it introduces (before killing them off), Obi-Wan and Boba Fett movies could easily fall into the same trap as Solo: giving us a story we didn't need. And between Star Wars Rebels and the official Star Wars comic, we've already filled some gaps in Obi-Wan's timeline, like what he did after watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.
