Facebook bug unblocked blocked users on 800,000 accounts

Facebook Facebook bug temporarily unblocked people from 800,000+ block lists

This means that if you blocked someone after an abusive or a frustrating incident, they were able to see at least some of your posts.

The company states that of the accounts affected by the bug, 83 per cent only allowed one blocked contact to gain Messenger and public post privileges.

Rather than wait for some enterprising third-party security researcher to unearth the bug, Facebook's chief privacy officer, Erin Egan, took a swig from the mea culpa chalice. The bug deleted some associations across Facebook and Messenger, and this caused the block settings for the affected users to be lost.

Facebook has revealed via a blog post that a bug, active between May 29 and June 5, had messed with over 800,000 users' block list over that one-week period, accidentally unblocking people the affected users had previously blocked.

Federer faces ID crisis in switch from Nike to Uniqlo
Federer looked his same old self in his new gear, disposing of Dusan Lajovic 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. The good thing is it's not theirs forever. "In a short period of time, it will come to me".

The bug doesn't appear to have been active for long in the grand scheme of things, but it's yet another example a breach of trust between Facebook and its users.

"We'd like to apologize and explain what happened". Crucially, if someone had been unblocked, they could have been able to contact the person who blocked them on Messenger.

"There are many reasons why people block another person on Facebook", Egan said.

Facebook has apologised for its second high-profile bug in as many months. Those who were unblocked could not see content that a user shared with their friends, but they could see "things posted to a wider audience", Facebook said, such as photos shared with friends of friends. Egan stated that the bug did not reinstate friend connections that had been severed and that those who should be blocked have been blocked once again.
