The tennis star donned the Japanese brand at his Wimbledon match on Monday, but for now has kept his Nike shoes. "I hope rather sooner than later, that Nike can be nice and helpful in the process to bring it over to me", the eight-time Wimbledon champion told reporters.

"It's also something that was very important for me, for the fans really".

Gone was the iconic Nike swoosh from his bandana and the RF logo that usually appears on his jacket was also missing. But the good news is that it will come with me at one point. "They are mine. The good thing is it's not theirs forever". Nike had sponsored Federer for the past decade and was on his body for all 20 of his career Grand Slams.

'With the shoe situation, I don't have a shoe deal. It is not unusual for an athlete to wear shoes from a company they are not endorsing - he has to wear something - but it is interesting to note that the shoes were still personalized with a unique logo specific for this year's tournament even though his Nike contract expired more than a month ago. This new contract marks a 300 per cent improvement on his old deal show that despite Federer's increasing years he remains a marketable commodity. Ties are not broken there.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward broke the deadlock shortly after half-time in the last-16 clash by poking home from close range. After their slow start it was ultimately no more than the Selecao deserved, as their bid for a sixth world title marches on.

The Swiss Maestro faces a potential banana skin in the opening round in the form of Dusan Lajovic, who he defeated a year ago in the second round. "But everything is open".

The defending champion cruised past world number 57 Lajovic in just 79 minutes. "It's very exciting also again to see what's out there, who wants to do something with me". "I remember I struggled early on a lot", said Federer who hardly broke sweat in Monday's 30-degree hothouse.

Federer breezed into the second round over Lajovic, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4.
