Melania Trump visits Phoenix for migrant children

Ahead of her border visit, Melania Trump dons a jacket that says 'I really don't care. "She does not care about these children".

Melania Trump traveled to Arizona to get a look at conditions for children brought illegally to the country by their parents, her second such trip in a week. Many were placed hundreds of miles away from one another and have been struggling to be reunited.

Stephani Grisham, Melania Trump's communications director, told reporters that Trump "wants to learn from the people on the front lines at the border". Most of the children had been separated from their families.

Opting for a bland black shirt, white slacks and flat shoes, Mrs. Trump departed Washington early Thursday for Tucson.

The choice ignited the internet and spawned a slew of memes about what the first lady, a former model, may have meant. "Do u?" jacket she wore on her way to a Texas child-detention center earlier this month. Her husband, President Donald Trump, undercut the no-message message by tweeting that his wife was saying she really doesn't care about the "fake news" media. Another classroom had five cribs lined up against a wall. "Como estas?" the first lady said in Tucson, greeting the children.

She also asked who liked soccer.

The first lady on Thursday will be visiting the Southwest Key Campbell, a Health and Human Services facility where immigrant children are being housed.

Vannia Moreno, who said her mother is an immigrant, wanted to send a message to Melania Trump.

Anticipating a trip to Phoenix, protesters also gathered outside the Southwest Key facility in the city's west side.

In Phoenix, her motorcade swept past a protest of several dozen and a large, inflatable depiction of the president in a Ku Klux Klan robe.

While last week's visit introduced Mrs. Trump to the housing conditions of children who arrived at the USA border for other countries without a parent or guardian, this week's visit is reportedly the first time the first lady has seen a facility that receives children and families immediately after they are detained while trying to cross the border.

Castro said her group was pushing for the immediate reunification of separated families, for an end to Trump's immigration policies and for the abolishing of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency in charge of deportations.
