It is particularly targeted at the sunscreens that consists the chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate.

"This irresponsible action will make it more hard for families to protect themselves against the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, and it is contrary to the many concerns expressed by Hawaii's medical doctors, dermatologists, and public health experts", the association argued. However, the products would still be available to those who have a prescription from a licensed health-care provider, according to the legislation.

"In my lifetime, our planet has lost about half its coral reefs", he said.

While environmentalists and most residents of Hawaii applaud approval of the legislation, some merchants have anxious the move may hurt at the cash register as about 70% of all common sunscreens now on the market would fall under this ban.

Sen. Mike Gabbard, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Environment, and the man responsible for introducing the legislation, hailed it as the gold standard for the world to follow.

Leaders have to act rapidly to conserve exactly what reefs globe has actually left, he stated.

Even ICE Agents Hate ICE
Many have called for ICE to be abolished while others have suggested its role be examined and changes made to its mission. "They can not be ordered by the White House to basically ignore their mission and the law, and that's what's happening".

Roughly one-quarter of coral reefs worldwide are already considered damaged beyond fix, while another two-thirds live under serious threat, according to WWF Global.

Ige is expected to sign a bill restricting the sale and distribution of sunscreen containing oxybenzone and octinoxate. The prohibition takes effect in 2021.

But, environmental organizations argue that the sunscreens with those ingredients can wash off from skin into the water while people are swimming and bathing, and it can be toxic to the coral reefs.

Jay Sirois, director of regulatory affairs for an association that represents sunscreen manufacturers, recently told NPR: "We're taking away a product, or products ... that have been shown over the course of time to be safe and effective" against the harmful effects of the sun.

This law does not include products marketed or intended for use as a cosmetic.
