Roger Federer extended his flawless winning streak at Wimbledon to 26 consecutive sets as the defending champion crushed Lukas Lacko, while Serena Williams powered to her 16th successive win in Wednesday´s second round action.

Federer will next face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff, who edged past Croatia's Ivo Karlovic in five sets.

The 36-year-old is the reigning Wimbledon champion and served up a near-perfect performance against second-round victim Lukáš Lacko on Wednesday.

Seven-time champion Serena fired 24 winners past Bulgarian Tomova to post a convincing 6-1 6-4 victory in 66 minutes on Centre Court.

The Slovakian is no mug, having been a beaten finalist at Eastbourne last week, but he could not cope with Federer's mastery as the Swiss racked up his 93rd Wimbledon win. Within seconds he added with a smile: "I'm happy whatever they say, as long as it is "game" and my name and not "game" and the other (person's) name".

"It was better than the first round".

Even ultimate warrior Williams, who was unable to defend her 2016 Wimbledon title a year ago because she was pregnant, applauded a couple of her opponent's winners late in the second set before completing victory in 66 minutes.

"I want to be here to focus on tennis, not eating bugs".

Serena Williams progressed into the third round with a dominant straight-set win over Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova.

"I´m getting there. I expect to get there, not only for Wimbledon but for the tournaments in the future". "I expected more from the team", Federer said on Wednesday, as quoted on the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Obviously, in the last nine, 10 years now, since we have had children, I've been trying to make that work in some shape or form with my wife". "You just think it's going to happen by itself, just because you play one good match the day before. If that's your best or not doesn't matter".

Victoria Azarenka suffered an exit at the hands of 7th seed Karolina Pliskova, who won 6-3, 6-3.

Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens is also through with a 6-4, 6-0 result against Russian Anna Blinkova, but Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska is out following a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Czech Lucie Safarova.
