As reported by CNN, operations to extract the team from the cave began at 10am local time.

The same divers who took part in Sunday's rescue of four boys trapped in a flooded cave will also conduct the next operation as they know the cave conditions.

The boys who were rescued on Sunday were strong and safe but needed to undergo detailed medical checks, he said. The boys were transferred by helicopter and ambulance to a hospital where they are being treated, but officials did not disclose details of their condition.

The cave system, in a limestone mountain range bordering Myanmar in northern Thailand, has proven to be a formidable challenge for the global rescue coalition drawing some of the world's best divers who have volunteered to help in the operation alongside Thai Navy SEALs.

As of this writing, four of the boys have already been rescued but operations have been put on hold to restock on supplies.

Air tanks were planted along the route earlier on Monday. It could take two to four days complete the mission, officials said.

But in an upbeat assessment, he said "it's flawless conditions like yesterday" and that "I expect in the next four to five hour we will have good news".

Chiang Rai provincial acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn made the comment at a news conference Sunday evening after rescuers extracted four of the boys from the cave where they had been trapped for more than two weeks.

The boys urged relatives "not to worry" and asked for their favourite food once they were safely evacuated, in notes handed to divers.

Expert climbers, divers and Thai Navy Seals have mulled contingencies ranging from drilling an escape route through the northern Thailand mountain to waiting out the monsoon inside the cave.

Tropical Storm Chris to strengthen; Beryl weakens to remnants
The tropical storm watch for Barbados has been discontinued as Beryl "no longer poses a direct threat". The storm was sitting almost still off the SC coast on Sunday, about 160 miles south of Cape Hatteras.

Some took time on Sunday to pay tribute to Saman Gunan, a Thai Navy SEAL who died while trying to ensure the boys had enough oxygen.

Residents of the nearby town of Mae Sai, located directly on the border with Myanmar around seven miles away from the cave entrance, have been following the saga of the boys' disappearance and rescue efforts intently.

Thailand's Meteorological Department said there was a 60 per cent chance of rain with more thunderstorms forecast throughout the week.

Rescuers woke to gloomy skies and potential thunderstorms following a night of heavy monsoonal rains lashing the mountainous region.

Their teammates remain trapped in the caves with their coach, with the operation resuming today.

The boys were playing a football game in Chaing Mai on June 23, after which they chose to explore a local cave system.

The football team have been in the cave since 23 June, when rising water levels trapped them inside.

Thai soldiers unload diving gear and rescue equipment during the ongoing rescue operation.

"Don't be anxious, I miss everyone". He posted a video of a diver testing the device in a pool.

"I promise to take the very best care of the kids", he wrote.
