"This afternoon, the Prime Minister accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary", a statement from Downing Street said.

Aldridge-Brownhills MP Wendy Morton said: "The Prime Minister is showing the same level of resilience that she always does".

British Prime Minister Theresa May has defended her post-Brexit trade plan that sparked Cabinet resignations, saying it is the only way to avoid a hard border with Ireland.

Davis resigned yesterday, saying May's plan to maintain close trade and regulatory ties with the European Union gave "too much away, too easily".

She told Sky News: "I'm happy to hear it will be published on Thursday".

Tory digital minister Matt Hancock - known for his self-branded social networking app - will now takeover Hunt's portfolio as Health Secretary.

So, as things stand, although a number of Conservative MPs are clearly unhappy with how May is handling Brexit, they are a vocal minority, without the numbers to actually remove the prime minister.

The resignations came just days after May announced Saturday that she had finally united her quarrelsome government behind a plan for a divorce deal with the EU.

But many pro-Brexit lawmakers are furious at a plan they say will stop Britain forging an independent economic course.

Like Mr Gove - who infamously made a rival bid for the leadership after the referendum - Mr Johnson has always been suspected of aiming to lead the party and be prime minister.

Johnson quit Monday with an incendiary letter accusing May of killing "the Brexit dream" and flying "white flags" of surrender in negotiations with the European Union.

The government of British Prime Minister Theresa May has been plunged into turmoil with the resignation of two senior Cabinet ministers, exposing a deep and perilous split over her Brexit strategy.

Of course it is still possible that May will ultimately decide of her own volition to quit.

She also said that the government had no intention of extending Article 50, which is a notice of intention to leave the European Union, and that there will not be a second national vote on this Brexit deal.

Less than nine months remain until Britain reduces the EU's membership on March 29, 2019.

May must now move quickly to try to win the EU's support for her Brexit proposal to unblock talks.

"It seems to me we're giving too much away, too easily, and that's a risky strategy at this time", Davis said in a BBC radio interview Monday morning. Under Conservative Party rules, a leadership race could be triggered if at least 48 of her MPs declared their support for one.

Boris's resignation letter is scathing.
