Maedeh Hojabri's Instagram account has since been shut down, and she was made to appear on state television after her arrest, where she expressed remorse.

Hojabri had posted about 300 videos to her almost 600,000 followers, many that showed her dancing, sometimes in mid-riff baring tops and tight jeans, without a hijab, which is required in public.

The crackdown is not new in the Islamic republic.

Her performances had thousands of followers on various accounts with her name on them, ranging from 12,000 to 66,000 followers.

Iran has already blocked access to many social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the Telegram messaging app.
