Donald Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday for his first visit as USA president, flying into a whirlwind of protests against him and political turmoil over Brexit.

Mr Trump's planned visit has been met with plenty of anger, with 50,000 protesters expected to take to the streets of central London on Friday.

Asked whether the president was aware of planned protests - including a "Trump baby" balloon being flown over Parliament - Johnson said: "I think we are all aware of these things but the president is focused on what his objectives are".

Rarely has a foreign leader been so mocked on an official visit - London's mayor, a Muslim who has challenged Mr. Trump's world view - okayed the balloon, which is an apt symbol of Mr. Trump's tempestuous relationship with Britain, traditionally the United States' closest ally.

Opponents to the controversial United States leader have threatened mass protests but Mr Trump is expected to avoid areas such as central London where demonstrators are likely to gather.

"As two nations, we are safer, more prosperous and more creative when we work together and I am looking forward to this week's important discussions", May said in a statement late Wednesday. We are living in very volatile times and so I hope nothing gets out of hand and I hope people can act civilly.

After a dinner for business leaders in Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, he will spent the night in the ambassador's residence in north London. I'm certainly going to Turnberry and I'll see him there.

Americans in United Kingdom warned to 'keep a low profile' during Trump's visit
It is not known how high the balloon will be flown in the air. "If the president wants to do something, we'll make it possible". The bands will play the Liberty Fanfare, Amazing Grace, and the National Emblem.

May, who faced flak over the UK's ties with the USA when the Trump administration was under serious criticism over its controversial immigration policies, reiterated that the United Kingdom did not have an alliance stronger than that with the U.S. and things will remain so in the days to come, the AFP report added.

The 36-year-old, who described Mr Trump's rhetoric as not "entirely to my taste", said she believes he is a proud American nationalist who has generally stuck to the pledges he made to voters.

Trump, who will arrive here later in the day with First Lady Melania Trump for a two-day working visit, will spend time with the Queen and May, reports the BBC.

Theresa May with Donald Trump at the White House in January 2017. It was during that trip to Washington that she invited him to the UK. Some plan to stage an "all-night noise protest" outside the barricades surrounding Winfield House later Thursday, with those attending urged to "bring pots, drums and vuvuzelas".

Top it off with the introduction of trade policies that have targeted some European industries - even though European nations are longtime friends accustomed to easy trade with the US - and it is not surprising that Trump's itinerary will keep him out of central London on Friday, when large protests are planned.

Donald Trump is due to touch down in Britain for a four-day trip that is expected to leave taxpayers with a police and security bill of up to £10 million.
