U.S. tennis star Serena Williams has outplayed Julia Görges of Germany 6-2 6-4 to propel herself into the Wimbledon final just 10 months after giving birth to her daughter. That was also the year she lost to Williams in the Wimbledon final.

Williams has improved round by round at SW19 over the past two weeks and her power was a joy to behold as surprise semifinalist Goerges fell 6-2, 6-4.

"It wasn't as tight as I was used to", she said last month.

"It's insane. I don't even know how to feel, you know, because literally, I didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back", Williams, 36, said, according to the Associated Press.

"It is a great feeling to be in the final and playing on the Centre Court is always a great experience and I am really excited", she told the BBC. This is not inevitable for me, I had a really tough delivery and multiple surgeries and nearly didn't make it to be honest. "So I'm taking everything as it is and just enjoying every moment". I didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back after 16 months away. So I remember I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal for me to be in a Wimbledon final.

Five games in, Ostapenko led 3-2, and the numbers were still tilted toward her.

"Whatever happens, honestly, it's an incredible effort from me and just good motivation to keep going for the rest of our career", Williams said. "I know that I have to play my best tennis to beat her, especially on the grass".

Kerber is a former No. 1 and a two-time major champion, both coming in 2016 at the Australian Open and U.S. Open.

The victory over Goerges extended Williams' winning streak at Wimbledon to 20 matches, dating to the start of the 2015 edition.

'She's trying to, yeah, playing like she played the years before where she won the big matches. Or, more to the point on this afternoon, how such a stinging serve and groundstrokes didn't help her avoid first-round exits each of the past five years at Wimbledon. But it was Kerber who played the smarter game, keeping her cool, counter-punching whenever possible, and refusing to be rattled by the screaming winners that her opponent hit time and again.

The first two points played by Ostapenko - who won the French Open in 2017 and crashed out in the first round the following year - were emblematic of the match.

It took Kerber two tries to serve out the victory, getting broken to 5-2.
