Apple's next iPad Pros tipped to get smaller and lose the headphone jack
30 July, 2018, 18:58
The launch event for the next generation of Apple iPhone and iOS-powered devices is gradually approaching. The site claims Face ID on the iPad Pro will only work in portrait mode though, which doesn't make much sense at all.
Mac Otakara notes that these changes to the iPad Pros will come alongside the addition of a TrueDepth camera system for Face ID, meaning the smaller dimension sizes could be the result of smaller bezels and the elimination of the tablet's Home button. Ben Geskin posted photos of the models on Twitter today: 2018 iPhone X Plus (6.5-inch) and iPhone (6.1-inch) Dummy Models. Furthermore, new information has surfaced that offers a glimpse at how Apple intends to tackle the problem on the new iPad Pros.
The smaller model will go from 250.6 x 174.1 x 6.1 millimeters to 247.5 x 178.7 x 6 mm, insider sources say, while the larger model is going to get shaved down from 305.7 x 220.6 x 6.9 mm to 280 x 215 x 6.4 mm. The iPad Pro comes with a 12.9-inch display and another variant with a smaller 10.5-inch display.
Apple has been thought to be working with Japan Display on this type of tech for quite some time but this would be the first model iPhone to actually benefit from the tech. The Lightning Smart Connector for the Apple Keyboard is also expected to be relocated to the same side as the Lightning Port, which could end up making the iPad dock in a vertical position while typing.
The headphone jack removal rumour was backed up further by a claim in the report that Apple will no longer be bundling the Lightning to 3.5mm adapters. Obviously the fact that it killed off cheaper better headphones from rivals didn't enter into it. Apple can't be facing the same space constraints in the iPad Pro. As per the report, the setup would be made so as to make it easy for it to recognize faces in landscape orientation. For now, we'll have to wait to find out more.
After the unveiling of the iPhone X last September, we've all been excited to see what changes Apple will make to this year's iPad Pro lineup.
