Charlotte Rae - the actress who played the beloved Mrs. Garrett in "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Facts of Life" - has reportedly died, according to TMZ.

'About seven years ago, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - which is a miracle that they found it because usually, it's too late. Initially set at a girls' boarding school, that NBC series ran for nine seasons, though Rae left after its seventh year.

Rae played the beloved TV character until 1986, when health reasons forced her to step down.

The actress, whose career on screen and stage spanned more than six decades, charmed audiences as housemother Edna Garrett on the show, a spinoff of "Diff'rent Strokes". Now I have to figure out if I want to go have treatment again or opt for life.

In 2005, at age 79, she appeared in a new comedy, "Leading Ladies", at Ford's Theater in Washington.

Born Charlotte Rae Lubotsky in Milwaukee in 2926, she aspired to be a dramatic actress. "I love life. I've had a wonderful one already." she continued.

Viewers quickly fell in love with Mrs. Garrett, who also served as a wise yet sharp-tongued mentor to the young women on "The Facts of Life".

"Facts of Life" hailed from Norman Lear's Embassy Communications.

During her first cancer battle, the actress went through gruelling chemotherapy and lost all her hair, but ended up beating the cancer.

"Sorry, no words at the moment just love and tears... and yeah, smiles", tweeted Fields, who portrayed Tootie. "No, no, no! If people had a positive experience with Mrs. Garrett, that makes me so happy!" She was Tony-nominated in 1966 for her work in the musical "Pickwick" and in 1969 for the play "Morning, Noon, and Night".

According to Entertainment Tonight, Rae is survived by her sister, Miriam Guten, and her son, Larry.

In the early 1970s, Rae moved to Los Angeles with her then-husband, composer and music editor John Strauss, and their sons Andy and Larry.
