Iran: China "pivotal" to salvaging its nuclear deal

Amid the rapidly-spreading protests, Iran's parliament announced Wednesday it would hold a special session to question Rouhani about the plummeting currency and struggling economy. A mass exodus of worldwide investment in Iran would be a death blow to the Iran nuclear deal.

"I'm ready to meet anytime they want to", Trump said of Iran during a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday.

It's not inconceivable a meeting on the sidelines could occur then - Tehran will be looking anxiously to a November deadline for oil buyers to stop purchasing Iranian crude.

The rhetoric between the US and Iran remains heated, despite Trump tweeting last week that he would be willing to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The U.S. also has banned imports of Iranian products such as carpets and pistachios and revoked licenses that allowed Iran to purchase U.S. and European aircraft.

Iran acquired five new commercial aircraft on Sunday, a day before the USA begins restoring sanctions that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear accord with world powers.

Trump has proven very generous to United States adversaries if they meet in the context of summits, but Iran would have to swallow its pride and some humble pie too if it were to kiss the ring.

The United States has told third countries they must halt imports of Iranian oil from early November or face US financial measures.

Saudi Arabia expels Canadian envoy for urging activist's release

"NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE", Trump wrote.

The U.S. State Department said on its Persian-language Twitter account: "While it is ultimately up to the #people_of_Iran to determine their country's path, #America supports the voice of the Iranian people, which has been ignored for a long time".

The Iranian foreign minister is now in Singapore, where a ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is being held.

APIf Trump helped North Korea's image, imagine what he could do for Iran.

But Trump and hawks in his administration, such as Pompeo and national security advisor John Bolton, were determined to put Iran back on a blacklist that will harm its economy.

"North Korea already has a nuclear weapon and is more isolated form the worldwide economy, the worldwide stage, whereas Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon and, I know it sounds extraordinary to say, but compared to North Korea is more integrated into the global economy", he said.

"Threats, sanctions and PR stunts won't work".

Scattered protests broke out in several Iranian cities on Thursday over the dramatic drop of the country's currency and other economic problems ahead of the imposition of renewed American sanctions, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.
