A group of U.S. senators, on a visit to Moscow on Monday, said they have invited Russian lawmakers to Washington later this year in a bid to help ease tensions between the two countries. While there, Paul met with a group of Russian senators, members of parliament, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Russian Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Konstantin Kosachev.

"Engagement is vital to our national security and peace around the world", Paul said.

Kosachev said Paul "has access" to Trump and top USA officials "and we expect that we will be able to convey through him our signals" of a desire to establish dialogue, according to the state-run RIA Novosti news service.

The senator announced his planned trip just hours after President Trump concluded a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump cast doubt on the US intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

At the conclusion of the hourlong meeting between Paul and Kosachev, Kosachev reiterated Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim that his government did not interfere in the 2016 US election.

If the Russian Federation accepts the invite, it would be their first trip to Capitol Hill in three years.

"The conversation with U.S. politicians was about resuming close cooperation between the Russian Federal Assembly and the U.S. Congress", Slutsky told reporters after the meeting.

Japan marks 73rd anniversary of atomic bombing of Hiroshima
The bombings claimed 1 Lakh 40 thousand lives in Hiroshima and 74 thousand in Nagasaki. Currently, more than 14,000 nuclear weapons are estimated to still exist in the world.

There is unanimous agreement among US intelligence agencies that the Russian government directed extensive influence operations to sow racial, political, and cultural division in the election. "They're not going to admit it in the same way we're not going to admit we were involved in the Ukrainian elections or the Russian elections", he said.

The Republican senator and ally of US President Donald Trump said he had travelled to the Russian capital to encourage diplomacy amid tense relations between Moscow and Washington.

Paul, however, has stood by Trump, despite his remarks in Helsinki.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Kosachyov denied that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election and said that it would not intervene in future races.

Trump has invited Putin to D.C.as well.

When asked by CNN whether the issue of Russian interference came up, Paul said he had "general discussions about a lot of issues". "President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin", he wrote on Twitter.
