USA to sanction Russian Federation over Skripal poisoning

U.S. orders new sanctions against Russia over chemical attack in Britain Yulia Skripal

"It is an assault on United Kingdom sovereignty and any such use by a State party is a clear violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and a breach of global law".

Police officers stand on duty outside Sergei Skripal's home in Salisbury, Britain, July 19, 2018.

The US State Department said the sanctions were in response to "the use of a "Novichok" nerve agent in an attempt to assassinate United Kingdom citizen Sergei Skripal" - a former Russian double agent - and his daughter Yulia.

The new sanctions, details of which were not released, were to take effect following a 15-day Congressional notification period, she said.

The US state department will impose sanctions on Russian Federation after it determined Moscow used a nerve agent to attack the Skripals. In the past, such exports are said to have included items like electronic devices and components, as well as test and calibration equipment for avionics. The measures are scheduled to go into effect on or around August 22, according to the State Department.

Sanctions waivers are in place for certain key sectors, including space flight activities and commercial aviation safety, the official said.

The new sanctions follow criticism of President Donald Trump for his refusal to call out Putin directly for transgressions including interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Bevacqua said the organization decided a couple years ago its current headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens no longer fit the bill. He is playing fantastic. "When you have an opportunity to do that, certainly it weighs on you a little bit", Spieth said.

Moscow ordered 60 American diplomats expelled in a tit-for-tat response.

Sergei Skripal, a former Russian spy, and his daughter Yulia Skripal were hospitalized and treated for a nerve-agent attack in March.

Two more people, Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess, later came into contact with the lethal substance and were hospitalised.

London and its allies have accused Moscow of trying to kill the Skripals and says the two cases are likely linked.

Later on, London claimed that the Novichok-class toxin had been developed in Russian Federation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously denied allegations that Russia was behind the poisonings, saying in March that it was "unthinkable that we would do such a thing".
