"I am able to touch my face now, and it feels awesome", Ms Stubblefield told the NY Post. A few months later, she and her boyfriend broke up.

It's no secret why National Geographic would choose to have Katie Stubblefield, 21, on the cover of their latest issue.

Stubblefield's brother told National Geographic that he found his sister upstairs, "and her face was gone".

"We think her story is one of the most important stories that we will do this year", the editor said.

But after 22 operations and her final face transplant she has chose to spread her message to help others suffering with suicidal thoughts.

Now, Katie hopes to use her historic surgery to raise awareness about the lasting harms of suicide and the precious value of life.

The world's first face transplant was performed in France in 2005. We're so happy to report that the transplant was successful - what a miracle!

Though she is literally using Schneider's face, Stubblefield will reportedly not look like her, since the face will mold to her bone structure as it heals. Her parents had to tell her what happened, and it shocked her.

But if someone were to guess what Ramsey might say about Bradford, it might be something like this: "Who?" I don't care one bit. Ramsey talking about Roethlisberger the way a father talks about his child doing something really stupid is wonderful.

"I felt so guilty that I had put my family through such pain. I felt terrible", Katie said in the interview.

In 2017, it was decided that Stubblefield would undergo a face transplant.

After that a surgeon eventually suggested the family to consider a face transplant, after which the process of finding a donor started.

Katie Stubblefield (pictured left in 2013 and right in 2018) has become the youngest person in the United States to receive a face transplant after the country's first face transplant on Connie Culp in 2008.

The hospital declined to identify Stubblefield after the surgery previous year, but released a statement from the transplant recipient. "This surgery can give her back the self-esteem and confidence she lost". "I get a second chance at life now", Stubblefield said before her surgery began. "Further, on the other hand, how much a singular rash decision made by so many young people today could negatively change your whole life". The only problem? This posed a greater risk of Katie's body rejecting the new face. "So many people have helped me; now I want to help other people", she told the magazine.

But she intends to pick up where she left off, she told National Geographic, going to college and perhaps pursuing a career in counseling.

Katie and her parents have been living at Cleveland's Ronald McDonald House for the last four years, the longest residents in the facility's history. During the interview, Katie said that she never saw herself as handsome and after a barrage of hardships - chronic gastrointestinal issues, the loss of her mother's job and a painful breakup - she wanted to end her life.
