In an interview with Australian publisher, Herald Sun, who are solidly behind the cartoonist, Knight said that the cartoon was about her reactions which earned her penalties on Sunday night's US Open finals.

"A champion tennis player had a mega tantrum on the world stage, and Mark's cartoon depicted that", the editor said.

Serena Williams was not happy with the chair umpire in the US Open final.

Knight, who has a reputation for controversial cartoons, was pilloried from far and wide for his portrayal - including by a member of the US Congress and a large portion of the 22,000 people who commented on his Twitter post showing the drawing.

The Herald Sun reported on Tuesday that Knight had been mentioned on Twitter almost 74,000 times following the cartoon's publication.

The Herald Sun newspaper printed an edited portion of the cartoon - featuring 23-time Grand Slam victor Williams jumping on a broken racket during her dispute with a chair umpire in the U.S. Open final - among caricatures of other famous people today under the headline "Welcome to the PC World".

Her opponent, who is Japanese with Haitian heritage, is pictured as white, blonde, and tiny in comparison to Williams.

MELBOURNE, Australia A cartoon of Serena Williams that has been widely condemned as a racist depiction of the tennis great has been partially reprinted on the front page of the Melbourne-based newspaper that initially published it.

Williams received a second penalty for throwing her racket to the ground and breaking it after losing a point.

Google Hints Pixel 3 Launch on October 9
The Youtuber relinquish his original theory and claimed that the Google will indeed release a notched Pixel 3 XL . Interestingly, the phone is likely to stick with a single camera shooter on the back, similar to the Pixel 2 XL.

Yesterday, the Herald Sun used its entire front cover to try and defend the cartoon, suggesting those who objected to it were PC and are all out to make our lives "very boring indeed".

However, the cartoon still drew widespread criticism, most notably online.

After the match, Williams would declare, "I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff".

"I saw Knight's cartoon and was not offended or angered".

"World's gone mad when cartoonist is targeted for saying tennis player spat the dummy-so sick of PC BS as too many confect an issue to be outraged about-that's what this is about". She's interesting to draw.

Whether it is was intended or not, Knight's cartoon has been widely condemned overseas with many arguing it reinforces a growing worldwide perception that Australia is a country of racists, with one notable exception.

The National Association of Black Journalists said the cartoon was "repugnant on many levels". As an African-American woman, so this whole business that I am some sort of racist, calling on racial cartoons from the past, it's just made up.

'A few days beforehand I had actually drawn a cartoon of Australian Nick Kyrgios and his bad behaviour at the US Open, so I'm not targeting.
