Tottenham vs Liverpool: Spurs without Alli and Lloris for Reds clash

Pochettino confirms Lloris will remain Spurs captain after drink-drive sentence Hugo Lloris to remain as Tottenham Hotspur captain, says Mauricio Pochettino

Lloris was spectacular during the World Cup and gave up no goals in either France's tough quarter-final match-up against Uruguay or their semi-final against a risky Belgium side.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been fined 50,000 pounds (65,000 U.S. dollars) and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading to driving while under the influence of alcohol.

World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris has admitted being more than twice the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police in central London. Drink driving is completely unacceptable.

When officers stopped the vehicle, they found vomit and said Lloris had to be helped from the auto.

Spurs plan to fine the France star £250,000 - two weeks' wages - following his court hearing on Wednesday.

The news is a bitter blow for boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was hopeful of selecting the pair for this weekend. All that happened (in court) is not good and he does not feel great. He said he was guilty of this situation and it's irresponsible.

European court rules against Britain over mass surveillance
Because there was not enough independent oversight of the search and selection processes, there was a violation of the code. This is the first time the European Court of Human Rights has dealt with a case involving intelligence sharing.

Pochettino said that Lloris has beaten himself up over his mistake but deserved a second chance. We can all make a mistake.

"That is a massive lesson for everyone".

Asked then about stripping him of the role, he said: "I never considered that. Now I need to pay like a man".

Goalkeeper Lloris sustained a thigh problem during last month's 3-0 win at Manchester United, which meant he missed the subsequent 2-1 loss at Watford and France's global commitments over the past week.

"I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters", Lloris had earlier said in a statement.
