With the OnePlus TV, the company will be looking forward to take on the likes on Xiaomi's Mi TVs in India, if only they can get the price right. OnePlus Founder and CEO, Pete Lau, will lead the new division alongside the existing smartphone division.

2019 is when you should expect to see a OnePlus TV. The forum post added that the product will have "premium flagship design" along with premium "image quality and audio experience". Dubbed as the OnePlus TV, the Smart TV will arrive in early 2019.

Chinese handset maker OnePlus said that it forming a new division to develop a Smart TV. Previously, this has served OnePlus well, and reminded it that it should not skip important features (back in the day, there was an outcry that the OnePlus 2 did not have NFC on board, and the company listened and fixed this in the next phone).

"At present, we feel the current market of TVs is still feeling quite traditional in their functionality and experience".

According to the CEO, they plan to reshape the experience of home entertainment with the help of intelligent connectivity features on the OnePlus Smart TV. It's fairly early into this new venture, then, but the company seems keen to make clear their ethos remains the same - creating high-quality hardware with a "seamless user experience".

Oddly enough, the side bezels on the newer model seem to be a tiny bit larger than those on its predecessor's screen. Under the hood, the phone has Snapdragon 835 which was last year's flagship SOC packed with 4000 mAh battery.

For nearly five years, the only products sold by OnePlus were its well-regarded line of affordable, high-end smartphones, and the accessories that go with them.

It's a surprising turn of events, but OnePlus says its equipped to enter the TV space after the time its spent making smartphones.

OnePlus aims to offer "seamlessly connect the home" which means that the users can connect their OnePlus TV to connect their phones and other devices.

OnePlus is also going to launch its OnePlus 6T soon. Following the claim, OnePlus has just launched a new contest.

Some ideas of what the TV could do include easily streaming media from your phone and showing information about your upcoming meetings or commute - kind of like Amazon's Echo show or Google Assistant-powered displays. As standard practice, the company reached out to its 5 million users through its official forum for feedback and suggestions on the product.

Even so, Lau wants to be clear that OnePlus is taking this seriously, and that the die has been cast: The OnePlus TV is the next big thing for the company. It's not really clear why this is the case, but Lau reassures prospective buyers who have privacy concerns saying, "we have this in mind, and we will have a solution".
