Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks during the F8 Facebook Developers conference on May 1, 2018 in San Jose, California.

Social-media giant, Facebook shared that its company's engineers discovered the breach on Tuesday (25 September). The law that came into effect in May states that companies which don't sufficiently protect user data can face maximum fines of €20 million ($23 million), or 4% of the company's global annual revenue from the prior year, depending on which sum is larger.

The massive security breach is the latest turmoil to hit Facebook, which is still reeling from the Cambridge Analytica scandal in which personal data belonging to millions of Facebook profiles was harvested by the data analytics firm to target them with political ads. The vulnerability has existed since past year, and is the largest till date.

A class-action lawsuit has been proposed in Canada against Facebook following a security breach that put the accounts of tens of millions of users at risk. The hackers have also tried accessing profile information like name, gender, location and photos from the compromised accounts.

Its hard to find someone who doesn't have a Facebook account. "Facebook users do not have to change their username and password; those weren't compromised", said Rahul Sasi, chief technology officer, CloudSek, a Bengaluru-based cybersecurity company.

Official says boy's injuries from shark nonfatal
At around 7 a.m. the San Diego County Sheriff's Department received a call for assistance from lifeguards at Beacon's Beach. In April of 2017, a 35-year-old woman was attacked by a shark at a popular surf spot at San Onofre Beach, authorities said.

A Google spokesperson was quoted as saying that the company carries out a careful review of flagged content, and will remove videos that encourage illegal activities of the hacking of accounts or sites with "malicious intentions". It is unclear how long the hackers will be able to use the access tokens to get into third party apps.

The bug allowed hackers to generate access tokens for absolutely anyone on the website.

Facebook said Friday it discovered a security breach that affects almost 50 million user accounts.

"Users are not required to change their passwords, but people looking to log out of all the various places they're logged into their accounts can do so with a single click through the Security and Login section under the settings menu". All 90 million of those accounts must log back into Facebook, where they will see a notification explaining the incident. Possession of those tokens would allow attackers to control those accounts. The weakness of this feature has left the engineering and security team baffled, as once again the privacy of millions has been breached.

Guy Rosen, Facebook's vice president of product management wrote in a blog post: "Since we've only just started our investigation, we have yet to determine whether these accounts were misused or any information accessed". First, They fixed the vulnerability and informed law enforcement.

"It's always the company's responsibility to identify when United Kingdom citizens have been affected as part of a data breach and take steps to reduce any harm to consumers", said ICO deputy commissioner of operations, James Dipple-Johnstone.
