The test will begin at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 3 and may last up to 30 minutes.

A text message from President Trump will be sent to more than 200 million United States cellphones in a test starting at 2:18pm Eastern on Wednesday-but officials stress that the president won't be texting Americans on a regular basis. It's meant to test the operational readiness of the infrastructure that distributes the national message, and determine whether improvements need to be made.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is coordinating with the Federal Communications Commission to send out a "Presidential Alert".

EAS: The Emergency Alert System delivers alerts via radio and television.

The system was launched in 2012.

A message box will appear on phones with a loud tone and vibration, similar to the alert cellphones receive for Amber Alerts, extreme weather and other threatening emergencies. Rather, its a test of a new nationwide warning system that a president could use in case of an armed attack by another country, a cyber attack or a widespread natural disaster. In January, Hawaii's emergency management agency mistakenly sent out an alert to more than 1 million cellphones warning of a ballistic missile threat.

Amazon raising minimum wage to $15 per hour starting next month
The move will benefit 250,000 workers in the USA , and 17,000 in the United Kingdom , and an estimated 20,000 seasonal workers. The company said it would increase its minimum wage for all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal employees.

With the IPAWS system, messages from local officials during an emergency will go out to the public on smart devices in a single alert.

The test is supposed to take place at 2:18 p.m. EDT on September 20.

"The EA is a national public warning system that provides the President with the communications capability to address the nation during a national emergency", FEMA said in a news release.

Wireless phones should receive the message only once. It is similar to monthly tests of the system the public is accustomed to hearing. The message will test a system allowing President Donald Trump, as well as future presidents, to send out nationwide emergency messages. You can, however, turn off AMBER alerts and severe weather alerts. "No action is needed".

The emergency alert system has come with its share of controversy and havoc. It will be accompanied by a national alert tone.

FEMA estimates some 225 million devices, or about 75 percent of cellphone users in the US, will receive the alert. Under the Warning, Alert, and Response Network (WARN) Act of 2006, cellphone users can not opt out of the presidential alerts. "No action is required".
