HMD hasn't been overly eager to bring its Nokia-branded handsets to the USA but that changes with the Nokia 7.1, a solid mid-ranger that looks to punch above its weight. It has a super bright 5.84-inch HDR10-ready display with a notch, a glass and metal design, Zeiss-branded dual cameras, and runs on Android One, a clean and bloat-free version of Android that is first in line when it comes to the latest software updates.

Powering the Nokia 7.1 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. You can further expand the storage to support memory cards upto 400GB.

Nokia 7.1 features Zeiss-branded dual-camera setup on the back.

The battery is a 3060mAh unit and since it supports fast charging over its USB-C port, it can get 50% of its charge in just 30 minutes.

HMD Global launches latest mid-ranger the Nokia 7.1

The new Nokia will be available in two finishes - Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel, both of which feature "dual-anodised diamond-cut coloured edges", which we think is marketing speak for "shiny and metallic-looking". The device starts at $349 in the United States and £299 in the United Kingdom, where you'll also be able to buy a 32GB model of the device. On the front side, it comes equipped with an AI-backed 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The Nokia 7.1 is an incremental upgrade over the Nokia 7, which launched in October 2017. At the front, there is an AI-based 8MP sensor with f2.0 aperture and 84-degree field of view. While the base worldwide model of the handset offers only 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space, the one that's set to be available in the US will feature twice as much flash memory and 4GB of RAM.

Out of the box, the Nokia 7.1 will be running Android 8.1 Oreo - however, Nokia promises that a bump-up to Android 9.0 is coming very soon. "The Nokia 7.1 even offers real-time SDR to HDR conversion, meaning you can experience HDR quality entertainment, even when your content is not", said Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global.

MrMobile's Nokia 7.1 Hands-On was produced after three hours with a Nokia 7.1 review device provided by HMD Global. The phone will ship and hit store shelves on October 28. The pricing for those models is 319 euros (~$369) and 349 euros (~$404) respectively.
