About 37 Percent Of Americans Eat Fast Food Every Day

Almost 40% of Americans Eat Fast Food on Any Given Day, Report Says The United States of fast food: CDC reveals 40% of Americans eat fast food every day

If you're an adult in America, there's a better than 1 in 3 chance that you'll eat fast food today - if you haven't already.

Between 2013 and 2016, about 37% of United States adults consumed fast food on any given day, according to the data brief published Wednesday by the National Center for Health Statistics.

"What surprised me was the finding that income was positively associated with more fast food", said Dr. Lawrence Cheskin, an associate professor and director of clinical research at the Global Obesity Prevention Center at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, who was not involved in the new report. The researchers found that men eat more fast food than women.

Whatever your income bracket, fast food probably isn't doing your health any favors.

Liz Weinandy, a registered dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, conceded that it's unsurprising that younger people eat the most fast food, but she said the rates are very concerning.

Regarding the fact that those who came from higher-income households were 1.3 times more likely to eat fast food on a given day than people from lower-income homes, Weinandy said her guess is that higher-income people 'are eating out more in general across the board and fast food falls into that category'.

Blacks were more likely to have eaten fast food on a given day than whites (roughly 42 percent vs. 38 percent, respectively), while 35.5 percent of Hispanics and 31 percent of Asian-Americans did so. Peak fast-food consumption occurs in our 20s and 30s - 44.9 percent of survey-takers in this age group ate fast food on a typical day.

While in Kenya she will see some of the country's wildlife, and watch a performance at the National Theatre. She also saw a site where 105 tons of ivory was burned as part of an effort to discourage the trade.

Weinandy said while it's not realistic to tell people not to eat fast food, she would like to see healthier options. People with higher incomes were more likely to consume fast food than those at lower incomes, the survey found.

Black men were the most avid consumers of fast food - nearly 42 percent had eaten the fare over the past day, the report found. Among men and women who consumed fast food, a higher percentage of men ate it for lunch, while a higher percentage of women ate it as a snack.

The CDC noted in its statement that fast food has been associated with a variety of problems, including elevated caloric intake and poor diet quality. "Consumers can find nutritional information on calories on the menu in most fast food establishments and restaurants".

'We have got an overabundance of highly processed foods that are very cheap and very easily available, ' she said. But "what we should be scared of is double cheeseburgers, french fries and large amounts of sugary beverages".

Our taste for fast food seems to diminish with age.

'And from there, you're establishing good behavior for kids to follow'.
