Turkish paper publishes photos of Saudi journalist's 'assassination squad' Turkish newspaper names 15 Saudis in case of missing reporter

Saudi authorities have said the journalist left the building after his visit and rejected Turkish police suggestions he might have been killed there.

Sabah newspaper, which is close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday revealed the identities of what it called a "mysterious" 15-member "assassination squad" who were allegedly involved in Khashoggi's disappearance.

The Saudi-born Khashoggi, whose writings were critical of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, went missing on October 2 after he entered the consulate, where Turkish officials claim he was murdered and his body removed.

The team arrived in Istanbul on two private planes, one of which landed after 3 a.m. (0000 GMT) on Tuesday while the second plane landed around 5 p.m. (1400 GMT) after Khashoggi entered the consulate.

Saudi Arabia has denied the allegations, insisting he left the consulate on his own, but has provided no evidence that he departed the building.

Khashoggi disappeared after entering Saudi Arabia's consulate to obtain paperwork required for his marriage to his Turkish fiancee.

"In most cases, their arrests have never been officially confirmed and no official has ever said where they are being held or what they are charged with", said the watchdog.

Riyadh has said Khashoggi left the consulate after his visit.

The Saudis wanted to lure him back to Saudi Arabia, but it was unclear if they meant to arrest and question him or kill him, or whether he was warned of the threat by the USA, the newspaper said. The footage shows Khashoggi entering the consulate on October 2.

The Turkish government believes that Khashoggi, a Saudi national who was living in the United States, was murdered.

At 5:32 p.m., cameras show Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, outside the police barricades of the consulate, speaking into her cellphone.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor who has written columns critical of the kingdom's powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, went missing on October 2 after entering the consulate for paperwork needed to marry his Turkish fiancée.

Signs of such a challenge began to emerge Monday night when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on the Saudis to "support a thorough investigation of Mr. Khashoggi's disappearance and to be transparent about the results of that investigation".

He is also a former editor of the Saudi newspaper al-Watan and had worked with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a grandson of the first Saudi king who was detained past year as part of what the authorities said was an anti-corruption campaign.

According to the images, a vehicle that went inside the consulate then went to the consul-general's residence nearby after 1200 GMT, two hours after Khashoggi had entered the mission.

Anonymous Turkish sources say the 15 men flew into Istanbul of two private Gulfstream IV jets with tail numbers HZ-SK1 and HZ-SK2.

"At this time, I implore President Trump and first lady Melania Trump to help shed light on Jamal's disappearance", Ms Cengiz wrote. Saudi officials haven't acknowledged that.

The Turkish foreign ministry on Tuesday said Saudi authorities gave them the greenlight to search the consulate but it has not yet taken place.
