Branson says Virgin Galactic to launch space flight ‘within weeks’

Virgin Galactic will be in space in “weeks not months,” says Branson Branson: Virgin Galactic To Put People In Space in 'Weeks, Not Months'
Frank Williams | 11 October, 2018, 19:16

Virgin Galactic will take its first trip into space within weeks according to Richard Branson, the firm's billionaire chief and founder.

We want to encourage more passengers to use their time flying with Virgin Australia to exercise their mind through meditations in the Inflight Entertainment System, and what better way to make this known than by holding the world's first dedicated meditation flight.

Virgin Galactic is the single private space company to have lost people during the development process for its spacecraft.

Even as Musk was forced to settle with the SEC over charges of securities fraud, paying a $20 million fine and stepping down as chairman of Tesla, he still appears to have the edge on Branson in the space race.

THE waiting list to travel to outer space on board Virgin Galactic's new spaceships first closed four years ago, but the demand to become a space traveller has far from waned.

Currently, some 700 people are on Virgin Galactic's waiting list (to the tune of US$250,000 (NZ$385,157) a ticket) for the company's first commercial flights, whenever they might be.

This Is Brett Kavanaugh's First Question as a Supreme Court Justice
Kavanaugh denied the allegations and during a Senate hearing accused Democrats of an "orchestrated political hit". There are 100 Senators, two from each state, and Republicans now hold a razor thin majority with 51 seats.

"Integrating mindfulness into our everyday lives is just as important as eating well and exercising regularly, and I am so excited to see Virgin Australia deeply embedding mindfulness into the workplace and onboard flights", Branson said. Within a few minutes, passengers will experience weightlessness.

"Out of ten people in the room, eight would go into space if I could afford it", - said the billionaire.

He said the length of Virgin Galactic's initial flights will be kept relatively short in order to keep prices at a "reasonable level". Since then, the company has already enlisted around 800 passengers who paid $250,000 Dollars each for a return ticket on the Virgin Galactic.

The company first promised sub-orbital spaceflight trips for tourists by the start of 2009.

In fact, Branson once said in an interview that he's "embarrassed" by displays of wealth, like leaving large tips and buying things for "pure luxury".

Blue Origin, owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, said that it aims to begin test flights by the end of 2018.
