Miami Heat president Pat Riley issued a statement Friday to dispute a report that negotiations with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a Jimmy Butler trade reached a point of hostility.

In an interview with The Athletic, Garnett said he hopes the franchise can "get through this rough patch and everybody can get on the same [page] and figure it out" but sees flaws in disgruntled star Jimmy Butler's approach in requesting a trade.

In addition to sparking an online spat that involved Andrew Wiggins, his brother and Stephen Jackson, Butler also refused to show up to training camp, at first.

"The best solution I can think of is a trade but the better solution would be people acting professionally, like Jimmy Butler rejoining the team and actually trying to lift guys up rather than tearing them down. You can't win without me". At every turn, however, it has appeared as though Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has gotten in the way. "I think Jimmy thinks his worth is a little more than what it is".

Perhaps it is now safe to say that the guys in Minnesota are not a fan of Butler's hard-hitting ways.

"It's not uncommon when players scrimmage that there will be some talk", Thibodeau said.

"We don't got no more time to be here saying, 'Aw, it's OK; it's preseason.' This momentum we're riding right now, this wave we're riding, it's not good. I was just used to playing guys growing up, talking trash and having fun at the same time". Butler reportedly had told Thibodeau in a meeting the day before that he would practice but made it clear what his approach would be. "Every team is going to through something at some point of the season". Our job is to get ready to play. Asked whether he felt Butler was displaying leadership in what he did, Thibodeau gave a nuanced answer. The finalized version of the trade involving Richardson, Waiters, and a protected first-round pick was reportedly agreed to before Thibodeau made a decision to get greedy.
