Employees staged walkouts at offices from Tokyo and Singapore to London and NY, with more expected to do so in California later in the day, reflecting a growing #MeToo-style backlash among women against frat-house misbehavior in heavily male-dominated Silicon Valley.

The walkouts have already begun in Tokyo and Singapore offices with employees posting pictures on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #GoogleWalkout.

Employees from more than 60 percent of Google offices worldwide will participate, organisers for the walkout told Gizmodo in an email. Such data must also include promotion rates, the handling of leaves and inequity in project and so-called job ladder opportunities.

The Walkout for Real Change protest comes a week after it emerged that Google gave a $90m (£70m) severance package to Andy Rubin, the creator of the Android mobile phone software, but concealed details of a sexual misconduct allegation that triggered his departure.

Rubin also responded to the report and said it "contains numerous inaccuracies about my employment at Google".

Rubin was accused of coercing another employee into a sex act in a hotel room in 2013. "Also, I am deeply troubled that anonymous Google executives are commenting about my personnel file and misrepresenting the facts".

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai said in a statement that "employees have raised constructive ideas" and that the company was "taking in all their feedback so we can turn these ideas into action".

Austria joins US, Hungary, to withdraw from United Nations migrant pact - English
Hungary's right-wing government has since said it will not sign the final document at a ceremony in Morocco in December. Hungary and the U.S. have already withdrawn from the compact , while Poland is considering not signing the accord.

Protesters in Seattle carried signs with such messages as "No one is free when others are oppressed", "Not OK Google" and "Don't Be Evil" - a mocking reference to Google's one-time motto. Overall, Google has about 2,000 people across four offices in India (Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore).

Thousands of Google employees walked out of their offices on Thursday as part of protests against the company's treatment of women.

"We're walking out in support of those who've been harassed anywhere in the workplace, and to ensure that perpetrators are not rewarded and are not protected", Sam Dutton, a developer advocate at Google, told CNN in London. "We should be able to make a dent in this".

"I think that people will doubt my work a lot more than they will doubt a male colleague's", she said.

Workers from all over - including London, New York and Washington, D.C. - staged mid-day walkouts Thursday to combat what they claim is sexism, racism and unchecked power by top company officials. Google's investigation supported the victim's version of events and was not fired but instead was asked to resign, allowing him a multi-million dollar exit package. "This feels like a betrayal of the culture".

"It quickly became clear that their concerns were very widely shared", said Temple University labor law professor Brishen Rogers. According to the latest approximation, the number of estimated participants has ballooned dramatically over the last few days.

The organisers said that almost two thirds of Google's global offices are involved in the walkout, demanding change - after advocating for it for years. Anderson's hope is that the effort spreads across the country and industries beyond tech.
