Japan Airlines first officer Katsutoshi Jitsukawa was due to fly up to 244 passengers from London to Tokyo when he was arrested by police.

JAL said from now on it will involve airport staff in alcohol checks rather than getting pilots to test each other.

Japan Airlines apologised on Thursday after one of its co-pilots was arrested in London for being drunk, delaying its Tokyo-bound flight, a day after another Japanese carrier reported delays blamed on a hung-over pilot.

Jitsukawa was charged with performing an aviation function with alcohol in his blood over the legal limit.

The 42-year-old admitted he had drunk two bottles of wine and a pitcher of beer the previous night.

The Boeing 777 aircraft took off after a 69-minute delay.

Japan Airlines, in turn, issued an apology for the incident.

The incident came to light after All Nippon Airways Co. on Wednesday apologized for five flight delays in Okinawa last week because a pilot was not in a fit state to work following a night of drinking.

Google employees plan worldwide walkout against sexual misconduct handling
According to the latest approximation, the number of estimated participants has ballooned dramatically over the last few days. Overall, Google has about 2,000 people across four offices in India (Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore).

Tests found the 42-year-old first officer recorded 0.18 blood-alcohol reading, nearly 10 times the legal limit for a pilot and four times the amount for driving.

Long haul flights, particularly those longer than 12 hours, are normally piloted by two captains and a co-pilot so they can rotate breaks.

The limit for drivers in Britain is 80mg.

"We are certain (the in-house breath test) wasn't conducted properly", JAL communications chief Muneaki Kitahara told reporters Thursday.

'The company sincerely apologises to the passengers and to all affected by the employee's actions, ' JAL said in the press release.

Jitsukawa was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London after failing an alcohol breath test.

The pilot later pleaded guilty before a court to being over the legal limit, and is expected to be sentenced on November 29. It will also prohibit pilots from drinking alcohol 24 hours prior to flights, compared to the current 12 hours.
