Florida Teen Allegedly Strangled His Mom Over Bad Grade: 'A Soulless Individual'

Florida Teenager Charged With Strangling, Burying Mother 15-year-old boy accused of killing his mother and burying her outside of church after argument over bad grade

A 15-year-old boy strangled his mother, 46-year-old Gail Cleavenger, after an argument over a bad grade, according to Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Detectives responding to that call around 3:52 p.m. began investigating what initially was reported as a burglary, supposedly discovered by Ramos after he came home from school.

"These guys helped him bury his mother back here", Chitwood said. After killing her, authorities say Ramos called two school friends, who allegedly helped him bury his mom, Gail Cleavenger, in a fire pit near a church.

He and his cronies are then accused of ransacking his home to make it look like it had been burgled, with Ramos abducted, before going to buy drinks.

His alleged version of events is said to have unraveled quickly, with Chitwood saying the boy showed 'no sign of remorse, whatsoever, ' after he reportedly admitted killing his mom. Chitwood said the boy is one of the "top three sociopaths" he has ever encountered, calling him a "soulless individual".

Ramos' crime is shocking, said Chitwood, who revealed that the teen took 30 minutes to strangle his mother with his bare hands, a deed he described to investigators in a remorseless confession.

"The district crisis teams have been activated", Volusia County Public Schools community information director Kelly Schulz said.

On Sunday, a judge ordered Ramos to remain in juvenile detention for the next 21 days until a further court order, WFTV reported.

Ceglarek and Porras are charged with accessory to first-degree murder.

Chitwood said Ramos allegedly believed his mother was dead and went to get a wheel barrow to retrieve her body, but when he returned he noticed she was still alive and strangled her again.

"The decision on whether to charge the defendants as adults has yet to be made", Hathaway said.

"The case we worked tonight was one of the most disturbing and saddest I've seen in my career", Chitwood said. "I have a feeling this is a case we'll be hearing about for years to come", Chitwood said. He then buried her body beneath a fire pit at River City Church in DeBary early Friday morning.
