White House bans CNN reporter Jim Acosta after Trump row

“You’re a terrible person”: Trump lashes out at CNN reporter at surreal press conference 'God Plays a Very Big Role in My Life': Trump Takes Soft Tone as Angry Media Blasts Him After Election

Jim Acosta is the chief White House correspondent for CNN, Donald Trump's most hated media organisation.

The White House suspended the press credentials of CNN reporter Jim Acosta on Wednesday, hours after Acosta tangled with President Donald Trump during a televised news conference.

Then more members of the media hurled loud questions at him about whether it's his job to change the tone.

When Trump tried to brush him off, Acosta refused to surrender a microphone provided by the White House, while trying to ask Trump another question.

Their arms momentarily come together as the woman tries to take the microphone off him.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement accusing Acosta of "placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern", calling it "absolutely unacceptable".

Sanders added that the White House was suspending Acosta's press pass, which is a requirement for reporters to get access to the White House.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders soon announced they would be banning Acosta from the White House grounds.

Acosta began by challenging Trump's assertion that a caravan of Central American migrants making its way on foot through Mexico to the United States border represented an "invasion".

Acosta had been questioning Trump about his claim that a caravan of migrants posed a threat to the US when the President turned on the journalist.

Mr Trump responded by saying "I think you should let me run the country, and you run CNN".

"The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is frightful", Trump said.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Out, Constitutional Crisis Murmurs Begin
US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions has resigned as the country's chief law enforcement officer at President Donald Trump's request. Rosenstein talked about secretly recording the president or having him declared incapacitated.

The White House upped the ante significantly.

Whether or not that's true, Sanders' description of Acosta's actions was inaccurate, and thus a false accusation.

WOW - Trump unloads on Jim Acosta, says "CNN should be ashamed of themselves having you working for them".

"This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better", said CNN in a statement.

Acosta has always been a bitter adversary of the White House.

The official Twitter account posted a statement which read: "This President's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far". The way you treat other people is frightful. Acosta joined a room of other journalists in questioning the president after the mid-term elections, and the topic of immigration came up.

Trump demanded the CNN reporter "put down the mic".

Acosta was stopped by the Secret Service from entering the White House at about 7 pm.

Trump clearly does not agree.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that CNN is "fake news" and incited his followers to chant the phrase at representatives of the news organization during his campaign rallies.

CNN's reporters, namely Acosta, have been frequently seen on the front lines of the White House's tense press briefings.
