A plane carrying dozens of Canadians flirted with disaster this morning.

Guyana's public infrastructure minister, David Patterson, planned to provide a detailed report on the incident Friday.

Global Affairs confirmed that 82 Canadians were on the Fly Jamaica aircraft when it made an emergency landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, Guyana, damaging the aircraft's right wing and engine.

Officials at Fly Jamaica said flight OJ256, which was headed to Toronto, had to make an emergency landing because of a technical problem.

Six passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries after a Canada-bound plane crashed shortly after take-off in Guyana's capital.

"No reports of any broken bones or such", he said.

The pilot reportedly claimed he started to experience technical issues with the hydraulics about 20 minutes into their flight and it forced him to turn around to its departure airport, according to Mr Patterson.

But while airline officials reported two of the 128 people on the plane were taken to hospital as a precaution, Global Affairs said all Canadians on board were believed to be unhurt.

CJIA says it has has set up a hotline - 261-2281 or 600-7022 - for family members for assistance and information. She was supposed to land at Pearson International Airport in Toronto today.

Patterson said that the United States' National Transportation Safety Board has been informed.

On June 30, 2011, a Caribbean Airlines plane overshot the runway at Timehri and crash-landed.

Fly Jamaica Airways was certified by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) in September 2012, and was cleared to operate in the United States by USA authorities in December.
