The entire city of Malibu was ordered to evacuate Friday morning as well as surrounding areas south of Highway 101, the entire community of Oak Park and sections of Thousand Oaks, according to a Ventura County incident webpage.

One of the fires broke out Thursday north-west of Los Angeles and roared south, jumping the U.S. 101 freeway early Friday and sweeping into the Santa Monica Mountains.

- A brush fire that broke out in Ventura County west of Chatsworth prompted mandatory evacuations on Thursday in the Los Angeles County community of Hidden Hills and residents of Calabasas and Agoura Hills were told to prepare to flee if officials give the word.

Residents have now been ordered to evacuate from several more towns to the west of Thousand Oaks, including Calabasas immediately south of Highway 101 and Malibu on the coast, as well as from the western edge of Los Angeles.

Cal Fire Capt. Scott McLean said a couple of thousand structures were destroyed in the town about 180 miles northeast of San Francisco.

No injuries have been reported in either fire.

And a blaze in Northern California sent terrified residents running for their lives as it closed in and destroyed parts of the town of Paradise, near Chico.

Rainn Wilson tweeted Thursday that he had also evacuated, and asked for prayers - and cash - for the people of Thousand Oaks.

The swift-moving Camp Fire, raging about 80 miles north of Sacramento, consumed Paradise, and moved Friday morning into the eastern side of Chico, a city with a population of around 90,000.

L.A. County Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Trey Espy confirmed 15 to 20 homes were impacted in the area of Kellwood Ct. and Churchwood Dr. and additional homes were impacted in nearby areas.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for California State University Channel Islands and for the Camarillo Springs area, according to Ventura County Fire Department officials. "I pray everyone is safe", she wrote.

Malibu itself - a city of about 12,000 people and known for beachside homes owned by celebrities and millionaires - was put under an evacuation order Friday morning.

Residents posted on social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in the Newbury Park area of western Thousand Oaks.

The fire has burned about 10,000 acres, according to officials, and at least 75,000 residents in both counties have been evacuated. The fire got started north of the 101 freeway in Simi Valley where it burned a number of homes last night.

Fire officials said it could take days to figure out how many people died.
