Pompeo will meet with his North Korean counterpart, Kim Yong-chol, in NY on Thursday to continue discussions on the denuclearization of the regime.

"We will reconvene when our respective schedules permit", she said.

The State Department said "conversations continue to take place", with North Korea, and added: "The United States remains focused on fulfilling the commitments agreed to by President Trump and Chairman Kim at the Singapore summit in June".

They "will discuss making progress on all four pillars of the Singapore Summit joint statement, including achieving the final, fully verified denuclearisation", a statement said, referring to the agreement signed at a June summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

North Korea has for years pursued nuclear and missile programs in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions but the bellicose rhetoric from both Pyongyang and Trump that raised fears of war has eased this year.

The State Department on Monday announced that Pompeo would travel to NY with Stephen Biegun, the US special representative for North Korea, to meet Kim Yong-chol.

"The North Korea policy won't change, but there will be tighter oversight by the Democrats, which could involve more hearings and more investigations". -North Korea negotiations have completely broken down or "lost their momentum" because of the postponement.

The ministry and south Korean foreign Affairs has deemed the report "unfortunate" but felt that the "interpretations overly pessimistic" does not justify.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in's spokesman Kim Eui-keum said the delay did not imply a collapse of the USA nuclear negotiations with North Korea or a loss of momentum.
