Google's always made a mess of its messaging strategy. Google's Scott Johnston-a product lead for three of Google's seven messaging apps-responded to the report on Twitter, calling it "shoddy reporting" and saying it "is only half the story".

After the rumours of Allo being killed off surfaced yesterday, Google has confirmed the death knell for the messaging service saying it will "continue to work through March 2019". According to 9to5Google, we can soon expect Google to announce the beginning of the end for the company's short-lived chat app. That is not a bad stats for an app that just clocked two years. However, it's not all for naught. This includes Allo, Duo, Hangouts, Hangouts Chat, Hangouts Meet, Google Voice and Messages. This is a product area which will get more attention at the expense of Allo, Google's version of 15 minutes of fame. Indeed, Google vice president Anil Sabharwal acknowledged as much about eight months ago in an interview, saying that the company would be putting a pause on additional investment into Allo. Google also at one point left some people wondering if Allo would be the intended successor to Google Hangouts' consumer usage, though of course that is being sunset, too. The move comes as Google is finding itself struggling to keep up with competitors like Facebook, Snapchat, Line and others.

Google's big bet this time is on Messages, a chat experience based on RCS that the company builds into the Android device to position it as a direct competitor to Apple's iMessage. First, they will be available in the G Suite, but later it will become available to all users.

So even if you overlook the fact that the apps that sound like they're a pre-millennial social networks are actually for professionals, you've still got two pairs of apps that basically do the same thing.

If you've lost track of which Google services will be discontinued in the coming year.

Real Madrid 'Agree Terms' With Hazard
Real, on the other hand, could offer midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who is now on loan at the London club, in a player-plus-cash deal. Star Belgian midfielder Eden hazard next summer could move from Chelsea to real Madrid .

Google has found itself with an overwhelming number of messaging options as it seems to throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks and call it spaghetti.

That's hardly clear. And I'm not really sure what Google is trying to accomplish with this new change. Probably that's why discontinuing Allo is the best move by Google.

Hangouts will live on as an enterprise tool, while Allo's features are being integrated in the Android messaging app Messages.

Messages is still waiting for carriers to implement RCS. After several failed attempts, the company has gone ahead and published a blog post detailing its future plans in the messaging space, particularly with Messages, Duo, Allo, and Hangouts.
