There is a new trend among teens, namely, vaping.
However, marijuana use remains steady among high schoolers, with almost 6 percent of 12th graders reporting daily use.
The students surveyed said they had vaped nicotine, marijuana or simply flavoring.
"Teens are clearly attracted to the marketable technology and flavorings seen in vaping devices", says Volkow.
The surgeon general is speaking out strongly on the issue, saying, "We have evidence-based strategies to prevent tobacco use that can be applied to e-cigarettes".
While tobacco use has been effectively controlled among USA teenagers, nicotine vaping has nearly doubled among high school students from 11 per cent in 2017 to 20.9 in 2018 leading a large number back to nicotine use and addiction, a survey has found.
Vaping involves using an electronic cigarette, hookah or similar device to inhale certain vapors or aerosols, which could contain substances such as nicotine, marijuana or flavoring.

Interestingly, regular tobacco use remained at its lowest point with only 3.6 per cent of high school seniors smoking daily, compared to 22.4 per cent two decades ago.
Alcohol use and binge drinking also continue to decline among teens, according to the survey.
