Trump Orders FEMA To Cut Off Aid For California Wildfire Recovery

"Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forrest (sic) Management, would never happen".

The tweet states that the president has ordered FEMA to stop sending money "unless they get their act together", which the president calls "unlikely".

"It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!", the tweet says.

He later deleted the tweet and reposted it, spelling "forest" correctly the second time.

Speaking at a Cal Fire station in Colfax, near the Tahoe National Forest, Newsom on Tuesday chided Trump's administration for cutting forestry budgets by $2 billion, but he also pledged to cooperate with the White House on fire-safety issues.

But the reality is that the federal government manages more land in California than the state. And numerous state's worst fires don't happen in forests at all. No matter how many people with rakes they deploy, forests are going to burn b/c of longer, hotter summers due to climate chaos.

It's unclear what prompted Trump's tweet, but if one were to take a guess, it might have to do with the fact that California governor Gavin Newsom is blasting Trump for the address he gave last night on border security.

Manafort accused of sharing Trump polling data with Russian operative
In return for his cooperation, he hoped to have prosecutors recommend leniency, possibly slicing years off his prison term. The request to use Manafort as an introduction to Trump came while Manafort was under indictment in two federal cases.

The president approved a federal disaster declaration after the fire, but not before criticizing forest management and threatening to cut off federal payments to California. "The people of CA ― folks in Paradise ― should not be victims to partisan bickering".

FEMA could not immediately comment because of the government shutdown. November's Camp fire ― the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history - engulfed more than 153,000 acres, destroyed almost 19,000 structures and killed at least 86 people. The utility said it's doing all it can to reduce wildfire risks.

Newsom signed two executive orders aimed at beefing up California's emergency response to natural disasters, like wildfires, which he framed as preparing the state for the impacts of climate change.

State officials have pointed to a variety of factors including some of the hottest years on record amid global warming trends.

Numerous wildfires that afflicted California late previous year were wholly or partly on federal land, according to data from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
