The Committee of Administrators (CoA) officials met in Delhi to discuss the dates and venues on 8 January and came out with a conclusion that the tournament will stay in India.

Denying all the deliberations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday cleared that the IPL 2019 will be held in India despite the General Elections scheduled in April.

The BCCI's announcement put an end to months of speculation about IPL's venue given the possibility of it clashing with the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the dates of which are yet to be communicated by the Election Commission.

It is also proposed that IPL 2019 will commence on March 23. "This will be done in consultation with central and state government authorities as well as security agencies", CoA chairman Vinod Rai said.

"The CoA will have detailed discussion with all the Stakeholders before releasing the IPL 2019 schedule", the BCCI release added.

More significantly, BCCI managers are confident of announcing the league schedule without having to wait for the dates of the general election. The first priority was always to keep the entire tournament in India but South Africa and the UAE were again shortlisted as alternate venues.

There were concerns that BCCI will have to host the league - or some of the matches - overseas as the dates might clash with the schedule of General Elections.

The IPL this time has to contend with the World Cup also, which will be held from May 30 to July 14 in England.

State governments say providing security for the IPL is a challenge at a time when they are preoccupied with election duty in the country of 1.25 billion people. Notably, according to Justice Lodha recommendations, there should at least be a 15-day window between the IPL and the next worldwide fixture of the India cricket team. The IPL will start on March 23.

ET had earlier reported that big advertisers as well as media buyers are of the view that the tournament should be played on the home soil.
