The story is an abstract one. Being a movie, these paintings end up having horrific abilities. And those that come into contact with them each appear to meet their demise.

Morf Vandewalt is not the most ethical of critics; he'd rather artists maintain vices such as alcohol dependency if it means good art, and he spares no-one's feelings in his lack of interest in the work of an up-and-coming modern sculptor.

The art world can be pretentious, but it can also be deadly, as the first trailer for Netflix's new thriller, Velvet Buzzsaw, reveals. He stumbles upon a collection of paintings by a man who has passed away, unaware that they have odd supernatural powers that prove to be deadly. Leading the Netflix exclusive are Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo.

Flu season poised to be milder than last year's
Because the model is new, CDC researchers said they aren't able to compare those estimates to previous flu seasons. Further, the flu season is still ongoing, so the severity indicators are still expected to rise.

From director Dan Gilroy, Velvet Buzzsaw follows members of the art world who are stalked by a supernatural force after paintings by an unknown artist are discovered. Dan Gilroy is now back his third film, Velvet Buzzsaw, which reteams him with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo in the story of the odd world of fine-art trading. And he co-wrote Kong: Skull Island with Max Borenstein and Derek Connolly.

In Velvet Buzzsaw, he seems to be channelling a side of himself we've never seen before.

Velvet Buzzsaw will premier at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival followed by a worldwide Netflix release on February 1, 2019.
