Foxconn had promised Wisconsin officials that the plant would create 13,000 jobs, majority low-skilled and on the factory floor.

The company a year ago said it was reducing the scale of what was to be made in Wisconsin, from what is known as a Gen 10 factory to Gen 6. Foxconn had initially agreed to build a Generation 10.5 plant, a much larger operation, in its contract with the state, but scaled back that commitment past year due to cost concerns.

"After productive discussions, between the White House and the company", and a personal conversation between Trump and Gou, "Foxconn is moving forward with our planned construction of a [Generation] 6 fab facility, which will be at the heart of the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park", the Taiwanese company said.

That includes a personal conversation between Chairman Terry Gou and President Trump.

"This is distressing news for Wisconsin taxpayers", said State Representative Mark Spreitzer.

Tony Evers told reporters in the state Capitol: "I'm comfortable that they're still committed to the state, they're still committed to this Generation 6 technology, but that doesn't mean we won't continue to encourage them to be more transparent and more consistent". Some remain skeptical. "They had a history of overpromising and underperforming", Hintz said Thursday.

Irving backtracks on plans to re-sign with Celtics
A report that surfaced this week said Kyrie Irving had an interest in reuniting with LeBron James with the Lakers. That was the plan before and that's still the plan now, obviously, Boston's still at the head of that race.

But as journalist Aaron Rupar noted on Twitter, the information in the CNBC article is hardly great news for Wisconsin's blue-collar workers. He says the Mount Pleasant facility will still perform manufacturing tasks but three-quarters of the workers will focus on research and the site would be more of a research hub.

The interview, revealing that Foxconn was no longer interested in building a factory, triggered a wave of angry comments across Wiscsonsin. The difference between a "Gen 10" and "Gen 6" plant rests with the size of the original glass used to make the screens.

January 18, 2019: Foxconn finished 2018 with 178 full-time employees in Wisconsin, 82 workers short of the minimum required to claim job-creation tax credits.

But Foxconn has repeatedly revised its plans for what will be made in Wisconsin and who will work there, causing confusion in the state and leading critics of the project this week to accuse Foxconn of a "bait and switch". What was originally billed as a multi-billion dollar deal with thousands of new jobs is now slipping away. Scott Walker and Trump.

After the Reuters report, Foxconn, a major supplier to Apple Inc, issued a statement confirming the global market environment that existed when the project was first announced had changed and "necessitated the adjustment of plans for all projects, including Wisconsin".
