Future Samsung smartphones may go camera-less, here's how

Samsung is considering to put a camera in the S Pen Samsung Found A Genuinely Good Reason To Use A Stupid Stylus

Still, a built-in camera and optical zoom could spark a new life into the Samsung S Pen stylus by extending its capability through new use cases.

This would be the smartphone here and the S Pen would confirm that the image or picture has been taken by the camera. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Samsung's patent which could ensure that the S Pen also functions as a camera with a superior optical zoom system, reports PatentlyMobile.

The S-Pen has been part of Samsung's flagship phablet since the very first Galaxy Note and is indispensable for fans of the smartphone series. Others have tested "periscope-like" lens arrangements to bypass body thickness impacts - most recently Oppo teased such a 10x optical zoom smartphone system. The camera embedded into the stylus is supposed to be controlled by an external button. There's also mention of battery being mounted in the pen. According to a newly surfaced patent, Samsung is exploring the idea of having an electronic pen device that has an optical zoom.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Android Pie update continues to make progress and it looks like it's still on track for a release in early 2019. Using the extra space in the stylus opens up an opportunity to include a wider range of optical zoom options. And if the camera is good enough, imagine how stable your videos could be when you're holding a pen that only weighs an ounce or two. We are in the eighth generation with the Galaxy Note 9 - remember, Samsung skipped the Galaxy Note 6 ... Additionally, the pen would offer more versatility when taking photos, letting users get into positions that would be awkward if holding a phone.

The next Galaxy Note is expected to be revealed in the second half of the year and it would be interesting to see what would Samsung do next for the upcoming S Pen.
