In sickening footage two Southampton fans could be seen making airplane gestures towards the visiting fans during their side's 2-1 defeat yesterday.

Southampton confirmed both fans had been spoken to by police and meant to take "an extremely firm stance" over the incident.

A statement from the club said the behaviour would not be tolerated and that the two fans would likely be banned as a result. We did all right and in some parts of the game we created what we had to.

The video, which has outraged many on social media, showed two men in the home section of St Mary's making alleged aeroplane gestures in the direction of away fans.

With fixtures against Watford, Everton, Wolves and West Ham in the coming weeks Warnock's team could edge closer to what was an unlikely target of preserving their Premier League status, and the manager said: "We could easily have folded, but we were determined".

Players in games across the Premier League and EFL wore black armbands in tribute to Sala.

The club further maintained they will not condone such indecent gestures towards Cardiff supporters.

Nantes players, staff members and Nantes' Bosnian head coach Vahid Halilhodzic (C-R) pay tribute to late Argentinian forward Emiliano Sala prior to the French L1 football match between Nantes and Nimes at the Beaujoire stadium in Nantes, on February 10, 2019.

"The club will be taking an extremely firm stance against anyone involved and intends to ban those supporters identified", the statement added. They also sang his name throughout.

Fifty-nine-year-old Ibbotson was flying the plane that carried 28-year-old Sala from Nantes to Cardiff when the Piper Malibu crashed into the sea on 21 January.

After Sala's body was recovered, continued search efforts were called off due to adverse weather conditions, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch said.
