England captain Joe Root stands by his decision to challenge West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel over alleged homophobic comments made during the third Test.

In a statement yesterday, the ICC said Gabriel was found guilty of breaching article 2.13 of the Icc Code Of Conduct For Players And Player Support Personnel, which relates to "personal abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an worldwide match" following an incident with England captain Joe Root. Which is exactly what England captain Joe Root did. I think they can sometimes be caught in the moment and not always say what you want to say or think you're saying. "Do you like boys?"

In a video which is now circulating on social media, England captain Joe Root can be heard on the stump mic calling out the West Indies pacer for use of abusive language. There's nothing wrong with being gay.' I then responded: "'I have no issues with that, but you should stop smiling at me'".

Gabriel went on to say that he had had a conversation with Root since and "I am comforted by the fact that there are no hard feelings between us" at the end of what he referred to as something he had initially assumed was "inoffensive picong [taunt] and sporting banter" but had since used as a "learning experience".

Gabriel was charged by the ICC on Tuesday after he was warned by the on-field umpires in the third Test in St Lucia for comments made towards Root.

"It's Test cricket and (Shannon) is an emotional guy trying to do everything he can to win a Test match".

Grizzlies’ Marc Gasol traded to the Raptors
Gasol stepped onto the hardwood with 2:20 remaining in the first quarter and the Raptors down 23-17. Based on his performance, it didn't appear to concern him very much at all.

Gabriel had earlier been suspended from the Mirpur test in November previous year when he reached the threshold of four demerit points.

"I don't know who said what to whom... but boy do I applaud Joe Root's reaction here".

'They are a good bunch of guys and it would be a shame if this tarnishes it.

As well as being banned, Gabriel was fined 75 per cent of his match fee.

"With the addition of these three [latest] demerit points, he has reached the threshold of eight demerit points, which, pursuant to article 7.6 of the Code, have been converted into four suspension points", the ICC said.

England and West Indies will play five ODIs, starting in Barbados next Wednesday.
