Gavin Williamson: Back Brexit deal or leave without one

UK Parliament votes to delay Brexit but rejects second referendum How did YOUR MP vote in crucial Brexit decisions?
Kenny Thornton | 16 March, 2019, 18:11

The UK Parliament will hold a number of important votes on the future of the Brexit process in the next few days, which will determine the nature of the future UK-EU relationship.

Lawmakers approved by 412 votes to 202 a motion setting out the option to ask the European Union for a short delay if parliament can agree on a Brexit deal by March 20 - or a longer delay if no deal can be agreed in time.

The British pound was unchanged on Friday at the end of its best week since January, as investors waited for next week's parliamentary vote on Prime Minister Theresa May's deal to exit the European Union.

The pro-Brexit MP voted against the deal last week, and has spoken of how the country should not be afraid of a "managed no-deal", but said calls from local farmers, business leaders, and councillors had now persuaded him to support the prime minister.

The main motion was backed by MPs from across the various political parties, however most Conservative MPs voted against the motion.

The third night of dramatic scenes at Westminster follows the rejection of her Brexit plans on Tuesday and the overwhelming vote by MPs on Wednesday to rule out a no-deal Brexit.

The European Parliament's Brexit coordinator, Guy Verhofstadt, questioned why the E.U. should grant an extension if the British government is "not ready for a cross-party approach to break the current deadlock?" He said there were now two options: "To vote for the deal and leave in orderly way or a long delay and I think that would be a disaster".

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. tapped Gunn up to write and direct the sequel to Suicide Squad , and it looked like we were done. For those that may not recall, Gunn was sacked from Marvel last summer when some old tweets he had made resurfaced.

Health Secretary Matthew Hancock said it would be "extremely difficult" but "still possible to deliver Brexit on 29 March with a deal".

A cross party amendment from Labour's Hilary Benn and Yvette Cooper with Tory Oliver Letwin cancels Government business next Wednesday and sets the stage for "indicative votes" meant to identify what kind of Brexit could pass the Commons.

If they refuse and the MPs persist in refusing the negotiated deal, the United Kingdom is on course for a no-deal Brexit in two weeks' time.

Mr Kawczynski, is a member of the hard Brexit supporting European Research Group, which has been opposed to Mrs May's deal, along with members of the DUP.

In what pro-EU supporters said was a metaphor for his decision to walk away from the fallout of Brexit, Farage said he wouldn't be completing the full two-week walk to London but would instead join campaigners for about a third of it.

An often chaotic set of votes in parliament this week has shown that none of the alternatives - such as leaving with no deal, a referendum or allowing parliament to decide how to leave - can muster a majority among lawmakers yet.
